When starting something new, its usually a good idea to start
slow. This is especially true when you are doing something new
with your body.
DanceSynergy encourages newcomers to relax into things. Don't
expect to get everything "right" the first time! There are lots of
things to learn from every class. It often takes several class
sessions before things really begin to "flow".
Try to break things down into simple parts. For example,
you can start by focusing on the footwork, and then worry
about arm movements later. Also, it often helps to
"block things out" by learning the "big movements" first.
Start by orienting yourself in relation to other dancers,
and then learn the detailed steps later. In other words, work
at your own pace! Work up to higher levels of strength,
flexibility, and endurance, and avoid injuries. Most of all, have
a good time!
